Admission Requirements: Master of Arts Programs

We offer online candidates three levels of admission based on past academic performance: full acceptance, provisional acceptance, and conditional acceptance.

Full Acceptance Requirements

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher from baccalaureate degree-granting institution
  • Completed application and resume with full work history
  • Official transcripts from all degree granting institutions
  • Letter of intent

Provisional Acceptance (Collateral) Requirements**

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher from baccalaureate degree-granting institution
  • Completed application and resume with full work history
  • Unofficial transcripts from all degree granting institutions
  • Letter of intent

** Official transcripts from all schools attended due prior to start of second course

Conditional Acceptance (Academic) Requirements

  • GPA of 2.5 to 2.99 from baccalaureate degree-granting institution
  • Completed application and resume with full work history
  • Official transcripts from all schools attended
  • Letter of intent (including reason for pursuing M.A. and reason GPA is less than 3.0)
  • Two letters of recommendation (must be from supervisors and/or those who can attest to candidate’s ability to be successful in graduate education)

All files will be reviewed individually for admission into the University. Applicants with a GPA lower than 2.5 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.Admitted students must achieve a 3.0 GPA in first two courses to move forward in program of study.

Admission Requirements: Ph.D. Program

  • A master’s degree, by date of matriculation, in industrial and organizational psychology or a related discipline. Applicants who did not graduate from Adler University’s Master of Arts in Industrial and Organizational Psychology or the Master of Arts in Organizational Psychology (MAOP Vancouver) program, or an equivalent program, will be required to complete equivalency requirements in addition to the doctoral curriculum.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all master’s degree coursework. Successful applicants typically have a GPA of 3.25 or higher for graduate-level work.
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can attest to the applicant’s likelihood of success in a doctoral program.
  • A writing sample (a publication, report, or essay previously submitted as an assignment).
  • An admissions interview.

Applicants who are graduates or current students in good standing from one of Adler University’s master’s degree programs may have one letter of recommendation, the writing sample, and/or interview waived.

Transfer Credits

For our master's programs, a maximum of 12 credit hours from other accredited institutions may be transferred. Students accepted for admission may be granted transfer credit for graduate level courses previously taken at another accredited institution. Upon enrollment into a degree program, a review of the unique academic and training history will occur and a determination will be made at the discretion of the University.

For our Ph.D. program, a maximum of 12 credit hours from other accredited institutions may be transferred. Students accepted for admission may be granted transfer credit for doctoral level courses previously taken at another accredited institution. Upon enrollment into a degree program, a review of the unique academic and training history will occur and a determination will be made at the discretion of the University.

International Applicants

All transcripts from outside of Canada or United States must be evaluated on a course-by-course basis by a NACES-approved transcript evaluation service. Please contact the Office of Admissions for specific transcript evaluation requirements.

English Language Proficiency Assessment

Applicants whose first language is not English must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Students who have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree in an accredited program in Canada or the United States may not be required to take the TOEFL.

Applicants should request that language proficiency test scores be sent directly to the University by the testing service: Adler University Admissions, 4129 E. Van Buren St., Phoenix, AZ 85008. These test results are valid for two years only.

TOEFL

Adler University’s Online Campus code number for receiving test scores is B134. Applicants who take the paper-based TOEFL must receive a minimum score of 580. Applicants who take the computer-based TOEFL must receive a minimum score of 240. Applicants who take the Internet-based TOEFL must receive a minimum of score of 92 with at least 22 on all four sections.

IELTS

Applicants who take the IELTS must receive a minimum Academic score of 7 overall with no band score lower than 7.
